Lawal Calls For African Nations’ Collaborative Efforts To Achieve Great Green Wall

The Minister of Environment Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has reiterated the need for African Nations to join efforts in order for the continent to achieve the objectives of the Great Green Walls programme.

Lawal stated this while participating in the ministerial segment of the Pan African Agency of the Great Green Wall (PAGGW) in Dakar, Senegal.

The Great Green Wall project is a flagship programme of the African Union that seeks to transform the lives of millions of people in the Sahel by creating a mosaic of green and productive landscapes.

The significant event gathered leaders and stakeholders from across the continent to discuss strategies and initiatives aimed at combating desertification and promoting sustainable land management in the Sahel region.

Speaking during his address at the extraordinary meeting, the Minister re-emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to the Great Green Wall initiative, which aims to restore 100 million hectares of land by 2030.

He further highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts among African nations to address the challenges posed by climate change and land degradation.

Speaking further, Lawal also called for increased funding and support from international partners to ensure the success of the initiative.

As the ministerial segment concluded, participants reaffirmed their dedication to implementing the goals of the PAGGW and fostering a sustainable future for the region.
