By Kelvin Alohan

With Nigeria’s launch of her Energy Transition Plan on August 25, 2022, as a roadmap to tackle the dual crisis of energy poverty and climate change on the one hand, while the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 on the other hand, promotes fossil fuel extraction and use, the 10th edition of Youth and Environmental Advocacy Centre’s (YEAC) Just Energy Transition (JET) radio program in Bayelsa state, focused on analyzing the contradictions presented by the development.

Speaking on the topic ‘National Energy Transition Plan and Petroleum Industry Act: Analyzing the Contradiction for Development,’ on Royal FM, Yenagoa, the Dean of Post Graduate Studies, Niger Delta University, Amassoma, Bayelsa state, Prof. Ibaba Ibaba, gave insights into the plan, its viability or otherwise and how the people can key into it

The Professor further spoke about the contradictions posed by the PIA and the nations’ energy transition plan and how they can be resolved to pave way for a greener, low-carbon economy in Nigeria.

The JET radio program is implemented by YEAC in Bayelsa and Rivers State in partnership with Spaces for Change and support from Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) as part of the project titled ‘From Exclusion to Inclusion in national Just Transition Plans,’ under the auspices of the Extractive Industry and Climate Change Governance Project.
