Earth Tremor: Nigeria Govt Commissions Control Centre

Following the recent occurrence of earth tremor and earthquake scare in Abuja, the federal government has commissioned earthquake monitoring command and control centre at the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA) headquarters.

The facility was commissioned Tuesday, in Abuja, by the Minister of State for Mines and Steal Development, Abubakar Bwari.

The minister noted that government approved the establishment of the Centre in order to check a repeat of recent earth tremors that occurred in the Abuja and mitigate against natural hazards.

He explained that the centre is expected to accelerate a robust plan by government to establish the necessary geoscientific infrastructure to monitor and mitigate all aspects of both natural and anthropogenic hazards.

The Abuja centre is to serve as control centre of other 4-station network located at the Veritas University, Bwari, Nasarawa State University, Keffi and University of Abuja, Gwagwalada.
