Eni Secures New Deepwater Block Offshore Mozambique

Mozambique’s Ministry for Mineral Resources and Energy Ernesto has awarded Eni exploration and development rights for offshore block A5-A in the deepwater Northern Zambezi basin, 1,500 km (932 mi) northeast of the capital Maputo.

Eni bid for the block under Mozambique’s 5th competitive Licensing Round.

The block covers 5,133 sq km (1,982 sq mi) in water depths of 300-1,800 m (984-5,905 ft), in a previously unexplored area offshore the town of Angoche.

The company will have a 59.5percent operated share of the block, in partnership with Sasol and state-owned Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos.

Will private management of Nigeria's refineries be a success story?
