LEITI MSG Adopt Anti-corruption, BO, Others As Key Priorities For Next 3yrs

The Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG) of the Liberia Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (LEITI) has adopted Anti-corruption, Beneficial Ownership (BO) disclosure, Contract Transparency and Domestic Resource Mobilization as part of its key priority areas for the next three years.
Other areas of key operational focus according to a statement made available to Extractive360 include effective communication of the EITI Process in Liberia, addressing the corrective actions from the last validation, capacity building for MSG members and secretariat staff as well as the development of a five-year Strategic Plan.
This development was reached during the orientation programme recently organized for members of the MSG and key LEITI partners.
The orientation which sets the foundation for the smooth operation of the Body for the next three years, featured insightful presentations from various industry experts and the international Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Secretariat
In his presentation, Nagbalee Warner, shared his practical perspectives on Liberia’s EITI implementation, the specific roles of constituents, and the general roles and responsibilities of the MSG.
Similarly, a team from the EITI International Secretariat comprising of Williams Enenche Noah, Gilbert Makore and Francisco Paris, shared global best practices in EITI implementation and how the MSG can use the EITI to drive reforms in the extractive sector in Liberia.
For his part, the National Coordinator of LEITI, Mr. Jeffery Yates, delivered a presentation which focused on praticalizing the MSG operations.
According to the statement, “A key takeaway from the orientation was the Body’s adoption of the following priorities for the next three years: Anti- Corruption, Contract Transparency, Beneficial Ownership Transparency, Domestic Resource Mobilization, effective communication of the EITI process in Liberia, addressing the corrective actions from the last validation, capacity building for MSG members and Secretariat staff and the development of a five-year Strategic Plan.”
The orientation programme had top Liberia Government Officials, EITI Secretariat, Members of the Diplomatic Community, Members of Parliament, Civil Society Organisations and industry leaders in attendance.
Notable among the attendees were Hon. Wilmot Paye, Minister of Mines and Energy and Chairman of LEITI MSG; Hon. Anthony Myers, Deputy Minister for Fiscal Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Development Planning and Proxy of the Co-Chair; Hon. Rudoloh Merab Sr., Managing Director of the Forestry Development Authority and outgoing Chair of the MSG; and Hon. Gabriel Montgomery, Deputy Commissioner General for Technical Services, LRA.
Others include Hon. Sam Jallah, Representative, District-3 Bomi County; Hon. Kwame Ross, Chief of Staff; Senator Abe Darius Dillon, Senator- Monsterrado County; Madam Cecelia Danuweli, Head Publish What You Pay-Liberia; Mr. Winston Wreh, Vice President at the Labor Congress; Mr. George Kingsley, representative from the National Civil Society Council, among others.
