FG, Petroleum Resources University To Collaborate On Environmental Challenge Mitigation

The Federal Government has restated commitment to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in efforts to mitigate environmental challenges facing the country.
The Minister of State for Environment, Dr. Iziaq Salako gave the re-assurance while pledging government collaboration through the ministry of environment, with the Federal University of Petroleum Resource, Effurun, Delta State, to mitigate the nation’s environmental challenges.
Salako stated this while receiving the delegation from the University led by the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Akpofura Rim-Rukeh, to the Ministry in Abuja.
The minister acknowledged that the National Policy on Environment developed in 2006 recognizes collaboration with the academia as vital, due to the fact that evidences and interventions are based on research.
Salako revealed that the ministry will review critical areas of interest in their submissions and work out modalities of a collaboration in the interest of the nation.
In his presentation, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Prof. Akpofura Rim-Rukeh, reiterated their commitment to support the ministry to achieve its mandate in the area of comparative advantage.
Prof. Akpofura further stated that the university as a specialized research based institution, looked forward to the establishment of an environmental hub for training and research on global best practices to tackle environmental challenges nationwide, in line with the present administration’s agenda.
