By Gift Eguavoen

In this last episode of the Just Energy Transition radio program on Quest93.5FM, Ughelli, Delta State, Extractive360 focused the discussion on oil corporation’s commitment to oil bearing communities in Nigeria as energy transition campaign gains momentum.

Speaking on the topic ‘Energy Transition and Oil Corporation’s Commitments to Communities,’ the resource person, Ogwu Paul, Executive Director, Institutional and Sustainable Development Foundation, shared his perspectives on whether oil corporations’ unveiling of energy transition agendas will result in improved commitments to communities, and whether or not unresolved cases of environmental degradation in the Niger Delta could potentially be a hindrance to just transition.

He further gave insight into how best to resolve the age-long environmental injustices in the Niger Delta, while highlighting examples of bad practices that Nigeria witnessed with the fossil fuel regime which should be avoided in the green economy.

The February 15, 2023 edition of the JET radio program on QuestFM is the last of the series of radio programs sponsored by Extractive360 in partnership with Spaces for Change (S4C) as part of the project ‘From Exclusion to Inclusion in National Just Transition Plans,’ supported by Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) under the Extractive Industry and Climate Change Governance Project.
