‘Civic Space and Human Rights Protection In Just Transition’

Civic space and human rights protection in just transition was the focus of the second edition of the Just Transition Radio Program aired on Redemption FM, Abak, Akwa Ibom State, on Tuesday.
The objective of the discussion was to help civil society groups and community members understand the steps they can take to ensure the protection of their rights, freedom and liberty in just transition.
Speaking during the half hour program, on the topic ‘Safeguarding civic and human rights in just transition,’ the Executive Director, Safer Communities and Sustainable Development Initiative, Nsima Udom, explained how communities can participate to decide their preferred just futures, in terms of their preferred jobs and alternative energy, how just transition can improve citizen’s wellbeing and enable harm and abuse free living as well as how civil society can work together to ensure the protection of these basic rights through networking.
The radio program is part of a project titled ‘From Exclusion to Inclusion in National Just Transition plans,’ under the auspices of the Extractive Industry and Climate Change Governance Project, being implemented by Extractive 360 in partnership with Spaces for Change, and donor support from Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP).
The program was presented in English and Annang.
