Mozambique’s Ministry for Mineral Resources and Energy Ernesto has awarded Eni exploration and development rights for offshore block A5-A.
The block is located in the deepwater Northern Zambezi basin, 1,500 km (932 mi) northeast of the capital Maputo.
Eni bid for the block under Mozambique’s 5th competitive Licensing Round, Offshore said in a report.
The block covers 5,133 sq km (1,982 sq mi) in water depths of 300-1,800 m (984-5,905 ft), in a previously unexplored area offshore the town of Angoche, according to Offshore.
The company will have a 59.5percent operated share of the block, in partnership with Sasol and state-owned Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos.
